Leafy greens
There are multiple factors in leafy greens that will drastically improve your experience of a planned surgery. People have tried to quantify, purify and isolate various factors and compounds that make a difference in clotting after surgery, but I prefer a whole food approach (not the store!).
I say this because the supplements which people try and add instead of eating leafy greens do not be the same results as eating before surgery. You can look up the individual effects of folate and all the vitamin B's, vitamin K, fiber, etc And they will all improve the effects of surgery, but taken individually they can be overdosed, underdose, and plain not work at all. This is because the supplement industry is completely unregulated and people get away with whatever they think they can get away with.
Leafy greens with sufficient chlorophyll (NOT iceberg lettuce-too white!) include vegetables like spinach, collard greens, kale, beet greens, cabbage, broccoli, all the dark green leafy stuff. Interestingly, chlorophyll is very similar to hemoglobin, which is the oxygen carrying molecule in our blood. It actually only differs by one iron molecule.

Many people suffer from anemia as well because they don't eat enough leafy greens. This is not because leafy greens have iron in them like the Popeye story, but there is some truth in the fact that it is difficult to absorb iron without the factors that are contained in leafy greens, like the vitamin B family, and others.
furthermore, the fiber involved in eating leafy greens is extremely important. People often ask me if it's OK to just drink green juice in the mornings, this is also not effective as it is merely the color, water, and sugar that is squeezed out in juicing. If 1 wants to do this, then blending the whole leaf with other stuff is far more effective. Fiber, apart from the BM effects of regularity, is important to our immune system, sleep, and allergy profile. Again, it does not really help to go and drink artificially produced processed fibers. Just eat the real deal.
